Inveterate Media Junkies™ #6 Podcast

• February 7th, 2011

Refreshed from their extended Holiday Break, the BOYS are DEFINITELY BACK and in fine form-- ready to dispense their special brand of medicine for those Wintertime Blues.

BUT FIRST... Before they start kicking butt and taking names, Ian & Jose dispense something much sweeter than even Truth and Justice... They ANNOUNCE the WINNERS of TWO DIFFERENT Inveterate Media Junkies Holiday Contests: TWO Winners (!) for the Great Dreamlandcomics.com Graphic Novel Giveaway and the extremely coveted Prize Packages (a 5 Graphic Novel Package for the Runner Up and a 6 Book Collection worth over $125 US for the Winner). Ian also takes much pleasure in announcing the ONE LUCKY WINNER of the DreamlandComics.com $50 GiFT CERTIFICATE for Christmas Day's 1st Annual "Double Secret Probation Inveterate Media Junkies Christmas Instant Win Contest".

After all the goodness, you'll need to steel yourself for the crap-- as it starts rolling fast & furious. (Tends to build up when you haven't recorded a 'cast in six weeks.)

Podcast #6 starts in earnest with a HEAVY DOSE of Marvel BS-- featuring the Boy's take on the rumors that the House of Ideas will be lowering their comic book prices to $2.99. Skepticism lies thick and heavy as the IMJ Men discuss the SIGNIFICANCE of Marvel releasing the Polybagged Fantastic Four #587 a DAY EARLY-- blowing the industry's agreed upon release dates. After discussing Marvel's tendency to game the system, it's on to Jason Aaron's BLUE ADVICE for renowned industry vet Alan Moore and it leads into a natural discussion about the conduct of many Marvel players-- including recently promoted Marvel Editor Tom Brevoort-- who never seems to pass up a chance to take a HUGE SWING at his employer's competitors-- especially when they are the Distinguished Competition.

NEW SEGMENT TIME! Jose and Ian turn their laser-like attention on the OTHER member of Comic Book Publishing's "Big Two"-- DC Comics-- in a NEW SEGMENT that had to be called "DC BS".. Up for examination is DC's lameass decision to no longer shrinkwrap Books that cost less than $49.99... And the upcoming MASSIVE FLASHPOINT CROSSOVER that includes WELL OVER 60+ Comic Books!

YOU will NOT BELIEVE what Jose tells you about this crossover and why-- if you are a DC Fan-- you will most likely be less than happy with the publisher... Despite their recently becoming the comic book industry's Low Price Leader.

And finally, just because it makes NO SENSE: Ian and Jose delve deep into the firing/quitting/negotiated exit of liberal minded pundit and MSNBC News Network Mega-Star Keith Olbermann. Find out what his departure means for MSNBC, the voices that appeal to progressive viewers and what just may be the PLUCKY Mr. Olbermann's next career move!

That's the Inveterate Media Junkies Podcast-- The ONLY WEEKLY PROGRAM where you can find IMJ Founder Jose Melendez... And co-founder Ian MacMillan too... And please come visit the MASSIVELY REDESIGNED IMJ WEBSITE-- the ONLY SITE on the INTERNET where you can interact with Jose (and Ian)! The door's wide open... Inveterate Media Junkies™ #5.2 Podcast

• January 25th, 2011

Inveterate Media Junkies Podcast #5 Part 2 painstakingly (& finally!) SHUFFLES TO LIFE!

Up First: A comprehensive look back at the GREAT GOODNESS that is AMC's THE WALKING DEAD TV SHOW. Insideman Ian MacMillan & Jose Melendez look at ALL ANGLES of this MONSTER HIT... Then wonder which came first-- the TV Show or the decision to REPRINT one WALKING DEAD COMIC book EVERY WEEK until the reprints catch up to the most current issue?! The Boys really worry about this strategy. Is it a GOOD THING... Or *ahem*... OVERKILL?

1st Book on the GRILL: Wolverine: The Best There Is... Written by Charlie Huston, with art by Warren Ellis favorite Juan Jose Ryp. Whenever anyone uses the words like PERFECT or BEST in the title... They better be prepared to back them up, right? Do they this time? Do Huston and Ryp finally pull Wolverine out of a PROGRESSIVE FUNK and bring back the brawlin' X-man from the brink? Or is this just another Mighty Marvel Mess? Jose & Ian are definitely divided on several aspects of this book-- so you'll just have to LISTEN to LEARN the FINAL VERDICT.

2nd Set of Comics on the GRILL: DC Comics T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #1 & #2... By super hot scribe Nick "Morning Glories" "Infinite Vacation" Spencer and artist CAFU. Both books get dissected with a sharp knife and placed under the microscope. WARNING: There are DEFINITE SPOILERS here and there-- but if you haven't read these CURRENT COMIC MASTERPIECES, you should LISTEN ANYWAY... Because Ian & Jose discuss everything from story technique, to the importance of proper story pacing to the PROPER USE of 2-Page Splashes. They also compare T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents' performance to other books on the SALES CHARTS... And Jose gives FANS reason for hope that the book will not only SURVIVE... But THRIVE! (He hopes!)

Mr. Melendez also uses a SPECIFIC WORD in this review that he possibly has NEVER, EVER used in a review BEFORE! Hold onto something tight... Cause when you hear it come out of Jose's mouth, you may FAINT. Serious.

Plus, there's random talk about a great game for the PS3-- as Jose answers a listener's TWEET in the MIDDLE of the PODCAST.

It's a BLAST! From the RECENT PAST! Check it out NOW!

Giving you the Hows & Whys the Ding-Dongs currently running G4 TV made a HUGE MISTAKE by not picking this RISING STAR to Co-Host AOTS with Kevin Pereira. The fans feel SCREWED, deep down Alison MUST feel SCREWED and if G4 doesn't watch themselves-- we and she will MOVE ON to BIGGER & BETTER things... And BRACE YOURSELF! Keep those nasty emails and tweets coming!

NEW SEGMENT! MARVEL BS makes its' EARTH SHATTERING debut as Ian and Jose examine some of the latest CRAZY to blurp out of the House of Recycled Ideas. They start with "Marvel's Architect" Program and wonder how the other 3,237 writers working for Marvel NOT included in this OVER-HYPED SCHIZZ feel about NOT being labeled a VALUED ARCHITECT. Then it's on to Marvel's FIVE new $2.99 mini-series... And while The Boys laugh at some, they promise to buy real-life Comic God Jonathan Mayberry's Captain America: Hail Hydra Mini-series despite feeling like they're being taken for a ride by Marvel Management. Then Dan Slott takes a turn on the spit-- as Jose and Ian call the writer of Amazing Spider-man out for his recent less-than-professional behavior on internet message boards.

To end Part One of this Two-Part New Year Extravaganza-- The Boys analyze the November Comic Book Sales Numbers, predicting what is going to happen in January, February and BEYOND.

Inveterate Media Junkies™ #4 Podcast

THE HOLIDAYS ARE UPON US & THE BOYS ARE STUCK ON FULL TILT!

‘Tis The Season To Tell It Like It Is… And Insideman Ian MacMillan and Comic Retailer/Webmaster/Vlogger & Blogger Extraordinaire Jose Melendez prescribe a MASSIVE LUMP OF COAL as  a “present” for the ill-advised, ill-conceived and illogical REBOOT of Buffy the Vampire Slayer– the EXACT same film being promoted by a slew of powerful filmmakers who have decided it’s “A-OK” to proceed WITHOUT the participation of Buffy’s Creator and Guiding Master, Joss Whedon.

Not satisfied with simply sampling that cold, pitiful bowl of winter gruel, The Boys then turn their attention to Dan Slott’s second “solo” issue of Amazing Spider-man– Issue #649. Unfortunately, things are much worse than were initially anticipated and look to be going downhill fast. Listen in SORROW as Peter Parker REGRESSES back to his bumbling, immature, lying persona of 20+ years ago! Sadly, this is the among the book’s LEAST offenses.

WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS NUMEROUS RANTS & CAN BE ADDICTIVE TO PEOPLE WHO ENJOY ACTIVE INTELLIGENT DISCOURSE ON COMICS.

NEXT UP: Batwoman #0. KATE KANE is one of Jose’s favorite characters from the Batman Family. Find out if Issue #0 meets ALREADY HIGH expectations or defeats Mr. Melendez INSIDE the PODCAST! Cringe in fear as Ian– ever in need of realism– takes the writers to task for one of the silliest time snafus to ever appear in Modern Comics.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST, Jose and Ian serve up a HEALTHY EXAMINATION of ONE of 2010′s BEST COMICS (if not the ABSOLUTE BEST): Writer Scott Snyder and Artist Jock’s Detective Comics #871.

Already SOLD OUT and SLATED FOR A 2ND PRINT, sit back with a smooth cup of Apple Cider and warm the cockles of your heart as you discover that, in fact, these TWO COMIC BOOK GRINCHES BOTH REALLY DO HAVE HEARTS… As long as they are DISCUSSING QUALITY COMIC BOOKS written and drawn by TALENTED, CONSCIENTIOUS CREATORS, that is.

It is a discussion you do NOT want to miss… As you’ll learn more about WHAT MAKES A GOOD COMIC than you EVER thought possible– and in just a few minutes!

Topping off these HOLIDAYS TREATS is the ANNOUNCEMENT of the FIRST EVER Daring & Dynamic Graphic Novel Giveaway from the Fine Folks at Dreamlandcomics.com! Don’t miss out on your chance to snag SIX BRAND NEW, FANTASTIC BOOKS that retail for over $125.00!

Psst… THE BOYS also hint of MASSIVE WEBSITE CHANGES TO COME WITH THE NEW YEAR… (They’re such TEASES!)

ALL in ALL... A JAM PACKED HOUR (PLUS a few more BONUS minutes!) sure to INFLAME & INSPIRE. You'll laugh, You'll cry... But BEST of all, you'll FEEL LIKE A COMIC FAN!

Hosted by Jose Melendez and Insideman, the Inveterate Media Junkies Podcast is a no-holds barred straight-forward examination and opinion forum concentrating on virtually ALL forms of media and pop culture, including: Comic Books, Television, Film & Music.

DON'T MISS REVIEW WEEK!

Joltin' Jose Melendez and Insideman Ian MacMillan briefly discuss the supposed impending, needless and most certainly temporary DEATH of Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man by the infamous sales powerhouses Mark Millar and Brian Michael Bendis. Ian & Jose then launch into SPINE TINGLING REVIEWS of Millar's SUPERIOR #1 & #2 and BENDIS' AVENGERS #7. ONLY A THOROUGH LISTEN TO THIS WEEK'S PODCAST WILL TELL THE TALE!

Leaving no stone unturned, the boys then sharpen their steely gaze on BATMAN: THE RETURN and compare that $4.99 Grant Morrison / David Finch 30-page One Shot comic book to Grant Morrison & Yanick Paquette's BATMAN, INC #1. Find out if Jose and Ian believe that Morrison is, in fact, a two-faced devil with the power to both SUCK and SHINE in the same week... And whether Mr. Melendez has come to praise or bury ARTISTS turned ARTISTS/WRITERS David Finch and Tony Daniel.

UP ON THE GRILL: Superior #1 & #2, Avengers #7, Batman: The Return and Batman, Inc #1! Is it FEAST or FAMINE? Your fate awaits!
